According to Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa
Fixing Nigeria's housing deficit is not only about providing decent, quality, and affordable shelter to Nigerians. It is also about creating jobs, promoting inclusive economic growth, and alleviating poverty.
Tomorrow, we will embark on the second leg of the nationwide groundbreaking exercise to officially flag off construction work for an additional 2,000 housing units in eight states in the South and North Central zones of the country under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme of the Ministry. These states include Ebonyi, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Osun, Oyo, Benue, and Nasarawa.
We will begin with 250 housing units in Ebonyi on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, followed by 250 units in Abia on Thursday, June 27th, 2024; 250 units in Akwa Ibom on Friday, June 28th, 2024; and 250 units in Delta State on Saturday, June 29th, 2024.
Others include 250 units in Osun (Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024), 250 units in Oyo (Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024), 250 units in Benue (Friday, July 5th, 2024), and 250 units in Nasarawa (Saturday, July 6th, 2024), bringing the total to 2,000 housing units in the eight states. This brings the total number of units under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme since the official launch in February to 6,612. We plan to complete and commission all the housing projects by the end of 2024.
Each Renewed Hope Estate comprises 50 units of one-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, 100 units of two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, and 50 units of three-bedroom semi-detached bungalows.
This follows the successful conduct of the first leg of the exercise, where we did the groundbreaking for 1,500 housing units in five northern states, comprising Katsina, Yobe, Gombe, Sokoto, and Kano, from May 22nd to 25th, 2024.
Our plan is to cover all states in the country as we are committed to delivering on Mr. President s resolve to provide decent shelter to all Nigerians.
